Egypt condemns attack on Yemeni commercial vessel in the Red Sea

Cairo, Aug 13 (KUNA) -- Egypt today condemned the targeting of ships in the Red Sea, including the Yemeni commercial vessel “Tihama,” which flies the Tanzanian flag, stressing that these attacks pose a serious threat to the security and safety of navigation in the Red Sea, one of the most important international waterways.

In a statement, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the commercial vessel “Tihama” was targeted by several missiles on August 11 while sailing off the Yemeni coast south of the port of Al-Mukha in the Bab al-Mandab Strait. It also noted the targeting of a Saudi oil tanker on July 25.

Egypt reaffirmed its firm rejection of all acts targeting ships and civilian infrastructure or threatening the security and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and international waterways.

It reiterated the paramount importance of respecting, ensuring, and protecting freedom of international navigation in all straits and international passages, in a manner that guarantees freedom of international trade and global supply chains, in accordance with the provisions of international law and the UN Charter.
