Kuwait City, Aug 13 (KUNA) -- On August 13, 1962, Kuwait joined the United Nations Training Centre for Isotopes. In 1986, Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued a decree-law regarding the evidentiary value of aerial photographs. In 1990, Iraqi occupation forces stole 15 aircraft owned by Kuwait Airways from Kuwait International Airport and transported them to Baghdad, prompting the Kuwaiti government to refer the theft matter to the International Civil Aviation Organization. Also in 1990, the Kuwaiti government rejected Iraq’s conditions for peace in the Gulf, which linked Kuwait’s future to Israel’s withdrawal from Arab territories and other contentious issues concerning the Middle East. In 1997, the Kuwait skeet shooting team won the gold medal at the Asian Skeet Shooting Championship held in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam. In 1998, the Kuwaiti equestrian team secured the gold medal at the 11th World Military Equestrian Championships held in Lebanon, with nine countries participating. In 2015, the Ministry of Interior arrested three members of a terrorist cell and seized large quantities of weapons, ammunition, and explosives hidden in a house, along with 56 rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launchers and live ammunition in a farm in the Abdali area. In 2016, shooter Abdullah Al-Tariki Al-Rashidi won the bronze medal in the skeet shooting event at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil. In 2018, Sheikha Farah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah passed away at the age of 74. She was the president of the Kuwaiti Association for the Ideal Family, which launched the Kuwait Ideal Mother competition, and served as a Goodwill Ambassador. In 2024, the Cabinet approved a draft law amending certain provisions of Law No. 16 of 1960 and Law No. 31 of 1970, which amended provisions of Penal Code No. 16 of 1960, aiming to impose stricter penalties for crimes against public officials. Also in 2024, the Cabinet approved a draft law amending certain provisions of Decree-Law No. 35 of 1976 concerning real estate rentals, aimed at safeguarding the rights of landlords and tenants. Additionally in 2024, the Cabinet approved a draft law amending certain provisions of Decree-Law No. 20 of 1981 concerning the establishment of a department within the Court of Cassation to adjudicate administrative disputes and expedite rulings on such cases pending before the judiciary.
