Three killed after severe storms hit the American Midwest

Washington, Aug 12 (KUNA) — Severe storms that began yesterday, Tuesday, across the U.S. Midwest have killed three people in Indiana and Ohio and left about a million others without power, with forecasts indicating the storms will continue through tomorrow. According to the U.S. news network NBC, winds exceeding 80 miles per hour uprooted trees and snapped power lines. In Indiana, officials told NBC that one person died in a house explosion believed to be weather-related, and a child was killed when a tree fell on his home. The third fatality occurred in Ohio, where emergency crews were unable to reach the scene. A state of emergency was declared following widespread flooding, and flash flood warnings remain in effect for approximately 16 million people in the region as severe storms continue to batter the Midwest.
