Egyptian Foreign Minister to GCC Secretary-General: Close coordination to contain military escalation in the region

Cairo, Aug 12 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s steadfast support for the security and stability of the brotherly Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, expressing Cairo’s solidarity with them and emphasizing the importance of continuing close coordination between Egypt and the GCC to halt the current military escalation in the region, thereby addressing the concerns of various parties.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement on Wednesday morning that this came during a meeting held yesterday between Minister Abdelatty and GCC Secretary-General Jassem Al-Bedaiwi, during which he affirmed that the security of GCC states is an integral part of Egypt’s national security. Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s full support for the measures taken by GCC countries to protect their security, stability, and the well-being of their peoples, expressing appreciation for the Gulf efforts aimed at supporting de-escalation and enhancing security and stability in the region.
Abdelatty expressed pride in the fraternal relations between Egypt and the GCC states, noting the notable breakthrough in institutional ties between the two sides since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultation in February 2022, and the adoption of the “Joint Action Plan” between Egypt and the GCC for the period 2024–2028 during the ministerial meeting held in Makkah Al-Mukarramah in March 2025. He also welcomed the inaugural session of the Egyptian-Gulf Trade and Investment Forum held in Cairo in November 2025, emphasizing the importance of building on the momentum achieved, particularly in the fields of renewable energy, petrochemicals, the digital economy, artificial intelligence, and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
The statement noted that Al-Bedaiwi, for his part, praised Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting security and stability in the region, as well as its continuous efforts to de-escalate tensions, resolve crises, and enhance joint Arab action. Al-Bedaiwi reaffirmed the GCC’s commitment to further developing its relations with Egypt and strengthening consultation and coordination with Cairo on various issues of mutual concern.
