Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Condemns Colombia’s Recognition of Israeli Sovereignty over the Syrian Golan Heights

Jeddah, August 11 (KUNA) -- The Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Hussein Ibrahim, on Tuesday expressed his strong condemnation of the Colombian government’s recognition of what it termed “Israeli sovereignty” over the occupied Syrian Golan. In a statement, Ibrahim affirmed that this decision comes within the framework of entrenching the fait accompli and legitimizing the Israeli occupation of the Golan plateau, adding that such a move constitutes a blatant violation of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, particularly Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981. He considered that Colombia’s decision does not alter the legal status of the Syrian Golan plateau as occupied Syrian Arab territory under international law and relevant UN resolutions. Ibrahim called on the Colombian government to withdraw its unlawful recognition of the sovereignty of the Israeli occupation forces over the Golan, reiterating the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s steadfast position supporting Syria’s unity, security, stability, and territorial integrity.
