Libya: Al-Zawiya refinery targeted for the fifth time since last Saturday

Tunis, Aug 10 (KUNA) -- The National Oil Corporation (NOC) of Libya announced on Tuesday that the Al-Zawiya refinery had been targeted by an explosive-equipped drone, marking the fifth such attack since last Saturday and resulting in a breach of a storage tank and a fire.

In a statement, the NOC said that attacks on oil assets at the Al-Zawiya oil complex continued, with fuel tanks being targeted. It specified that the latest incident occurred on Tuesday evening, when the roof of diesel storage tank 4/4 was hit by an explosive drone, causing it to be breached and a fire to break out.

The corporation added that emergency and safety teams managed to contain the fire and limit its spread as quickly as possible. This attack was the fifth in a series, following the resumption of operations at the refinery after it had been halted due to previous attacks. The fourth attack occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning, when diesel storage tank 2/4 was targeted and caught fire. Emergency and safety teams also managed to contain that fire and prevent it from spreading to adjacent tanks, with no casualties reported.

The NOC reassured citizens that fuel supplies were unaffected and that the distribution of fuel to stations was proceeding according to the usual schedule and mechanism, meeting daily required quantities.
