Libyan Presidential Council calls for overcoming tensions and enhancing security and stability

Tunis, Aug 11 (KUNA) -- The Libyan Presidential Council called on Tuesday for addressing divisions and overcoming the causes of tension in the city of Al-Zawiya in western Libya, and for enhancing security and stability following a fire that broke out in one of the fuel tanks belonging to the Al-Brega Oil Company, amid concerns about security and economic repercussions.

In a statement, the Council said this came during a meeting held by Council Vice President Abdullah al-Lafi and Chief of Staff Salah al-Namroosh with a number of security and military leaders in Al-Zawiya, western Libya.

According to the statement, the meeting discussed the repercussions of the fire that broke out on Monday in one of the fuel tanks belonging to the Al-Brega Oil Company, and the efforts made to control it and contain its effects.

Al-Lafi stressed during the meeting the necessity of addressing various divisions, overcoming the causes of tension, preserving the social fabric, and strengthening national cohesion within the city.

The participants also discussed recent developments in the security and military situation in the city and ways to enhance coordination between security and military institutions to ensure they carry out their duties in accordance with the law and to consolidate security and stability.

The meeting also addressed the necessary measures to enhance the protection of vital facilities and ensure their safety, as well as raising the level of coordination among competent authorities to deal with such incidents.

The meeting followed security tensions witnessed in Al-Zawiya, which included a fire breaking out in a fuel tank at the Al-Zawiya refinery depot after it was targeted by an unmanned aerial vehicle of unknown origin. (End) S.B.M. / M.A.H.A.
