Berlin, August 11 (KUNA) – Results of the latest German opinion poll released on Tuesday indicated that the crisis of confidence among German voters in Chancellor Friedrich Merz and his government continues. According to the poll conducted by the specialized institute Forsa and presented to journalists, the Chancellor’s popularity, who assumed office in May last year, has fallen to 13 percent, marking its lowest level since he became Chancellor, while 85 percent expressed dissatisfaction with his performance. The poll noted that even among supporters of the Christian Union, to which Merz belongs, 54 percent were dissatisfied with his performance, while this figure rose to 83 percent among supporters of the Social Democratic Party, the coalition partner in the government. This comes amid a continued decline in the popularity of the parties forming the ruling coalition. The Christian Union secured only 21 percent, compared to 28 percent for the right-wing Alternative for Germany party, which maintained its lead by a margin of seven percentage points. The Green Party came in third with 16 percent, while both the Social Democratic Party and the Left Party each received 12 percent. The Free Democratic Party remained stable at 4 percent. Consequently, the combined support for the two parties in the governing coalition does not exceed 33 percent. (End) E.N.J. / N.S.A.
