Libya condemns the targeting of the Al-Zawiya refinery and affirms pursuit of those involved

Tunis, Aug 11 (KUNA) -- The Libyan Ministry of Defense’s Facilities Protection Force condemned on Tuesday the attack on the Al-Zawiya refinery, which resulted in the burning of a diesel fuel storage tank. It affirmed that it would work in coordination with the relevant authorities to uncover the circumstances of the incident, track down anyone proven to be involved, and take the necessary legal action against them.

In a statement, the Force strongly condemned the attack that targeted the Al-Zawiya oil depot on Monday evening, describing any assault on oil facilities, including setting them on fire or sabotaging them, as an attack on the Libyan people’s assets and national wealth, and as a direct threat to the security and safety of workers, citizens, and public and private property.

It stressed that oil facilities are national assets owned by all sons of the Libyan people, and are not arenas for infighting, settling scores, or armed conflicts. Protecting them is a national and security responsibility that tolerates no negligence or tampering.

The Force expressed its firm rejection of any hostile or destructive acts targeting public or private property or endangering the lives of citizens and workers, reaffirming its full commitment to protecting oil facilities and their personnel.

It called on all parties to exercise reason and spare oil facilities and public and private property from the ravages of conflict, and to respect the sanctity of these national infrastructures, which represent a shared wealth and an inherent right of all Libyans. (End) S.B.M./A.B.G.
