UK Met Office warns of rising temperatures next Thursday

London, August 11 (KUNA) -- The UK Met Office issued an “orange-level” warning on Tuesday for extreme heat in parts of England on Thursday, with temperatures potentially reaching 38 degrees Celsius. In a statement, the office said the heat warning would be in effect from 9 a.m. until late evening on Thursday (local time), adding that the eastern, south-eastern, and Midlands regions would experience the highest temperatures.

Meanwhile, the UK Health Security Agency issued an “orange-level” health alert on Monday to cope with the heat across most of England, valid from Tuesday until next Friday, marking the fifth heatwave of the summer.

For its part, the National Drought Group, which includes senior decision-makers from the Environment Agency, the government, water companies, and other relevant organizations, reported that 71.3 percent of the country is experiencing sudden drought conditions due to the combination of low rainfall and sharply rising temperatures.
