(Cultural Summer 18): The "National Works" art workshop strengthens the sense of belonging among youth

Kuwait City, 10 Aug (KUNA) -- Amid acrylic paints and paintbrushes, small stories about Kuwait began to take shape on canvases created by young artists who chose to express their love for their homeland through their brushes and colors. This activity was part of the “National Works” art workshop organized by the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters as part of the “Summer of Culture 18” festival. The workshop, held at the Museum of Modern Art, brought together male and female participants aged 12 to 17, who worked under the supervision of visual artist Yaqoub Al-Jarrah to present their artistic visions of Kuwait’s past and present, as well as its holidays and national occasions.

In a statement to KUNA on Monday, Al-Jarrah explained that the workshop focused on helping participants plan their artworks, develop their ideas, and execute and color them. He noted that some participants had prior experience in painting and training, while others were taking part for the first time. He emphasized that art is not limited to canvases and colors; it also contributes to cultivating aesthetic taste and sensibility in individuals, influencing various aspects of their lives, choices, and perceptions of the world around them.

On her part, Sara Khalaf, Acting Director of the Visual Arts Department at the Council, told KUNA that the workshop aims to instill feelings of love, loyalty, and belonging to the nation among young people by employing art and painting as a means for them to express their sentiments toward Kuwait. She added that the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters provided participants with the necessary artistic supplies and tools, along with a suitable venue and a specialized instructor.

The workshop is part of the “Summer of Culture 18” festival program, which offers a range of cultural and artistic activities aimed at developing young people’s skills, encouraging their creativity, and enabling them to express their talents. (End) S.H.D./T.A.B.
