Egypt stresses the necessity of the occupation's full withdrawal from Lebanese territories

Cairo, Aug 10 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Dr. Badr Abdelatty stressed on Monday the necessity for the Israeli occupation to halt all military attacks on Lebanon and fully withdraw from Lebanese territories, thereby enhancing Lebanon’s security and stability and preventing the recurrence of escalation cycles in the region.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated in a press release that this position was expressed during a phone call received by Minister Abdelatty from his Lebanese counterpart, Youssef Raji, which covered ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as recent developments in Lebanon and related regional developments.

The statement clarified that the call addressed the latest round of negotiations between Lebanon and the Israeli occupation, hosted by the Italian capital, Rome, earlier this month. The two ministers exchanged views on the outcomes of the round, aiming to create favorable conditions for completing the Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territories.

Abdelatty emphasized, according to the statement, the importance of continuing the negotiation process and building on what was achieved during the round to yield tangible results that ensure respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. He stressed the necessity of the full and non-selective implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.

He reiterated Egypt’s full support for the Lebanese government and its efforts to strengthen state sovereignty and extend its authority over all Lebanese territories, as well as its support for state institutions, foremost among them the Lebanese Armed Forces, enabling them to fulfill their national responsibilities in safeguarding the country’s security and stability. He stressed the importance of Lebanese state institutions remaining the unifying framework for managing the country’s affairs and preserving its stability.

He also expressed pride in the distinguished historical and fraternal relations between Egypt and Lebanon, and the commitment to continue working with the Lebanese side to elevate the level of bilateral relations and joint cooperation in various fields. He reaffirmed Egypt’s full solidarity with Lebanon and its support for its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national institutions.

For his part, the Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates expressed appreciation for Egypt’s firm and supportive positions toward Lebanon, as well as the continuous Egyptian support for the Lebanese state and its institutions. He emphasized his country’s keenness to continue coordination and consultation with Egypt on various issues of mutual interest. (End) A.S.M./A.B.G.
