UK records highest number of migrants crossing the English Channel on a single boat

London, August 10 (KUNA) -- The UK Home Office announced on Monday that the largest number of migrants had crossed the English Channel, with 230 people arriving on a single boat last Saturday, marking the highest number ever recorded on one vessel. In a statement, the ministry said the previous record was 165 people, indicating that the total for Saturday reached 258 individuals arriving on four separate boats, including the boat that broke the record. It added that the latest incident reflects “the reckless and dangerous tactics employed by criminal gangs, who continue to put lives at risk by cramming increasing numbers of people onto unseaworthy boats.” The number of people who have made this perilous journey to the United Kingdom so far this year stands at approximately 14,819, a 43 percent decrease compared to the same period last year.
