Iraq announces application of (Counter-Terrorism Law) against drone holders

Baghdad, August 10 (KUNA) -- The Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced on Monday the application of the Anti-Terrorism Law to drone operators who operate outside legal frameworks in Iraq, revealing the seizure of 49 drones this year, 2026. Brigadier General Miqdad Miri, head of the Department of Relations and Media at the ministry, said at a press conference that the Iraqi judiciary treats any drone that enters or operates outside official frameworks as terrorism. Consequently, drone operators are subject to the Anti-Terrorism Law if they possess drones for non-peaceful purposes or through illegal means. He noted that the ministry’s Special Committee for Inventory and Regulation of Weapons seized 49 unlicensed drones this year. Meanwhile, Iraqi government spokesperson Haider al-Abudi revealed on the day before yesterday that a large network was thwarted last Friday, having planned to carry out drone attacks on specific targets. The operation, described as highly significant and crucial, resulted in the infiltration and dismantling of the network, the arrest of its members, and the confiscation of drones and other equipment.
