GCC Secretary-General Welcomes UN Security Council Statement Condemning Houthi Attacks on Saudi Arabia and Commercial Ships

Riyadh, Aug 10 (KUNA) -- Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jassem Al-Budaiwi welcomed today, Monday, the statement issued by the members of the UN Security Council, which condemned the missile attacks launched by the Houthi terrorist militia against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since July 13, as well as the attacks targeting commercial ships since the 22nd of the same month.

In a statement, Al-Budaiwi said, “The GCC states strongly condemn these repeated terrorist Houthi attacks against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which constitute a blatant violation of its sovereignty and a direct threat to its security, stability, and territorial integrity.”

He added, “Targeting commercial ships and threatening international maritime navigation routes represents a dangerous escalation that endangers regional security and stability.”

In this regard, he called on the international community to assume its responsibilities regarding these serious aggressions and to adopt a firm international stance to hold the Houthi terrorist militia accountable for its repeated attacks and violations, and to work towards an immediate and urgent halt to these aggressions.

Al-Budaiwi affirmed the full solidarity and support of the GCC states with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the face of all threats to its security, sovereignty, and stability, and expressed their backing for all measures undertaken by the Kingdom to protect its territorial sovereignty and the safety of its citizens and residents.
