Aden, Aug 9 (KUNA) -- Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi discussed with the Acting U.S. Ambassador to Yemen, Neil Hopp, on Sunday the Yemeni and regional developments, as well as the Houthi militia's targeting of Al-Mukha Port on the Red Sea in Taiz Governorate, along with economic facilities and civilian landmarks.
The official Yemeni News Agency reported that the meeting took place during al-Alimi's reception of the Acting U.S. Ambassador. Al-Alimi called on the international community, with the United States at the forefront, to move beyond merely containing the Houthi threat to addressing its sources and tools, and to supporting the Yemeni state institutions and their capacity to protect their territory, waters, and citizens' interests.
According to the statement, al-Alimi affirmed that the Houthi militia is waging a systematic war targeting the Yemeni people's assets, vital lifelines, and economic outlets, evidenced by the targeting of Al-Mukha Port, military sites, civilian landmarks, commercial vessels, and displaced persons' camps.
He stated that targeting a vital seaport in close proximity to the Bab el-Mandeb strait represents an extension of an escalation approach that affects economic facilities, maritime passages, and the interests of regional countries, further demonstrating the danger of leaving missile capabilities, drones, and specialized weapons outside the state's authority.
He clarified that the situation in the region reaffirms that the problem does not lie in isolated crises, but rather in a single source of instability based on the use of armed groups outside state institutions to achieve cross-border objectives.
