Spain condemns (Houthi) attacks on Saudi Arabia and calls for de-escalation

Madrid, Aug 9 (KUNA) -- Spain strongly condemned on Sunday the attacks launched by the (Houthi) militia against Saudi Arabian territory and the targeting of Saudi commercial vessels, emphasizing the need to de-escalate tensions. In a post on its official account on the social media platform X, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that violations undermining the integrity and sovereignty of Saudi Arabia must cease immediately, warning that escalation undermines efforts to achieve a negotiated and sustainable solution in the region. It expressed full solidarity with the government and people of the Kingdom and offered best wishes for the recovery of the injured, while affirming that respect for and adherence to international law are the means to restore regional stability and security. Members of the UN Security Council condemned on Friday the missile attacks launched by the Houthis against Saudi Arabia, as well as their attacks on commercial ships, warning that escalation threatens the security of the region and freedom of navigation and undermines efforts to bring peace to Yemen, a stance that received widespread international welcome.
