India and the United States Conduct Joint Explosive Ordnance Disposal Training

New Delhi, Aug 9 (KUNA) -- The Indian Ministry of Defence announced on Sunday that India and the United States will conduct a bilateral explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) training exercise on Monday in Kochi, a city in the southern state of Kerala.

In a statement, the ministry said the training, scheduled to take place at the headquarters of the Southern Naval Command in Kochi from August 10 to 14, aims to enhance operational interoperability and strengthen professional cooperation between the diving teams and specialized EOD units of the navies of both countries.

The statement added that the five-day exercise includes the exchange of specialized technical expertise, joint training, equipment demonstrations, and practical drills based on specific scenarios. It clarified that the program will facilitate the exchange of modern methodologies, emerging technologies, and best practices in the field of explosive ordnance disposal, while also providing both sides with the opportunity to observe each other’s capabilities, operational concepts, and underlying doctrines.

It further explained that the training is designed to promote joint learning and operational harmony, enabling naval personnel from both countries to refine procedures, increase mutual understanding, and enhance their ability to effectively respond to complex and evolving challenges related to explosive ordnance disposal.

The Indian and US navies have been conducting joint exercises in the fields of maritime rescue and explosive ordnance disposal since 2005. This exercise marks the eighth edition of the bilateral specialized training between the two countries, underscoring the firm commitment of both navies to enhancing operational interoperability, exchanging operational expertise, and strengthening cooperation in specialized maritime operations.
