(Yemeni Health): 7 civilians killed and 30 others injured in Houthi airstrike in western Yemen

Aden, August 9 (KUNA) -- The Yemeni Ministry of Health announced on Sunday that seven civilians were killed and 30 others, including two children, were injured as a result of Houthi militia attacks on civilian, health, and vital facilities in the cities of Al-Mukha in Taiz Governorate and Al-Khokha in the coastal Red Sea governorate of Hodeidah.

In a statement, the ministry said the attacks targeted the port and city of Al-Mukha and the city of Al-Khokha, hitting the Saudi Field Hospital and its surroundings. It added that targeting civilians and threatening health facilities poses a direct threat to the lives of patients and health workers, endangering the continuity of medical services.

The ministry warned that attacks on health facilities or their surroundings do not only cause direct human and material losses, but also weaken the health sector’s capacity to respond to emergencies and admit the injured, exacerbate the suffering of the population, and deprive the most vulnerable groups of access to healthcare.

It called on the United Nations, the World Health Organization, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the international community to condemn these attacks, take active measures to protect civilians, health facilities, and their staff, document and verify violations, and work to ensure they are not repeated, while guaranteeing the uninterrupted delivery of medical and humanitarian services to the population without threats or obstacles.

The statement appreciated the health and humanitarian support provided by Saudi Arabia and the role played by the Saudi Field Hospital in serving citizens, reaffirming its continued efforts in coordination with local authorities, health entities, and partners to enhance medical response and care for the injured.
