Lebanon condemns Iranian attack on Emirati oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz

Beirut, August 8 (KUNA) -- Lebanon today strongly condemned the Iranian attack on a tanker belonging to the United Arab Emirates as it was passing through the Strait of Hormuz. In a statement, the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates affirmed that this attack constitutes a blatant violation of the rules of international law, particularly the provisions of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and Security Council Resolution 2817, which reaffirms freedom of maritime navigation and rejects Iranian threats to disrupt or close navigation in the strait. Lebanon reiterated its rejection of Iran’s attempts to use the Strait of Hormuz as a tool for bargaining and coercion, calling for the full reopening of the strait without conditions. The Lebanese Foreign Ministry emphasized Lebanon’s full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates and its support for the measures being taken to safeguard the safety of navigation and its assets.
