GCC Secretary-General strongly condemns Iranian attack on Emirati tanker in the Strait of Hormuz

Riyadh, Aug 8 (KUNA) -- The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem al-Bedaiwi, expressed his strongest condemnation on Saturday of the dangerous Iranian attack targeting a tanker belonging to Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) as it transited the Strait of Hormuz.

In a press statement, al-Bedaiwi said, “This attack constitutes a dangerous and unacceptable escalation and a direct threat to the security and safety of maritime navigation and international trade in one of the world’s most vital waterways.”

He firmly rejected any Iranian attempts to turn this crucial international waterway into a tool of pressure and threat, calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities and adopt a firm stance to halt these dangerous attacks, prevent their recurrence, and ensure freedom and security of maritime navigation in accordance with the principles of international law, the law of the sea, and relevant international resolutions.

Al-Bedaiwi emphasized the GCC’s full and steadfast solidarity with the United Arab Emirates, standing by its side and supporting all measures it takes to protect its security, sovereignty, assets, and interests. (End) A.S. / A.M.S.
