Arab League Secretary-General condemns attack on UAE oil tanker while transiting the Strait of Hormuz

Cairo, Aug 8 (KUNA) -- Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy on Saturday condemned Iran’s targeting of an oil tanker belonging to the United Arab Emirates as it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz. In a press statement, Fahmy said the attack represented a new link in a continuous chain of Iranian violations of the principle of freedom of navigation and the safety of sea lanes, stressing that this aggressive behavior constituted a breach of United Nations Security Council resolutions, foremost among them Resolution 2817, which affirmed the principle of freedom of navigation and rejected the targeting of commercial vessels. He placed full responsibility for these attacks on Tehran for violating established international principles regarding freedom of navigation and the safety of waterways, warning of their repercussions on the security and stability of the region.
