British Maritime Authority: Merchant vessel hit by unknown projectile off the coast of Oman
London, August 8 (KUNA) -- The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced on Saturday that a commercial vessel came under attack off the coast of the Sultanate of Oman. In a brief statement on its official website, the agency confirmed it had received a report that the ship, whose identity was not disclosed, was attacked by an unidentified projectile at a maritime point located 18 nautical miles east of Oman’s Khasab area. It clarified that the attack caused a fire on board, which was quickly extinguished without any casualties among the crew, and that no environmental impacts had been reported. The agency renewed its call for ships and tankers transiting territorial waters to exercise utmost caution and vigilance amid the current security situation and to report any suspicious movements or activities.
