UAE condemns Iranian attack on ADNOC tanker in the Strait of Hormuz

Abu Dhabi, Aug 8 (KUNA) -- The United Arab Emirates strongly condemned the aggressive Iranian attack that targeted a tanker belonging to Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) with a missile early Saturday as it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, with no casualties reported. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that this attack constitutes a blatant violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817, which underscores freedom of navigation and rejects the targeting of commercial vessels or the disruption of international sea lanes. The statement emphasized that “targeting commercial shipping and using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool for economic pressure or coercion constitutes acts of piracy by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and poses a direct threat to the stability of the region and its peoples, as well as to global energy security.” The UAE reaffirmed the necessity for Iran to halt these aggressive attacks, thereby ensuring its full commitment to ceasing all hostile actions and fully reopening the Strait of Hormuz unconditionally, in order to safeguard regional security and the stability of the global economy and trade.
