The Palestinian Presidency welcomes the signing of the (Mecca Joint Defense Agreement) and the launch of the maritime alliance to protect freedom of navigation

Ramallah, Aug 7 (KUNA) -- The Palestinian Presidency welcomed on Friday the signing of the Mecca Agreement for Joint Defense between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Turkey, and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, as well as the launch by Saudi Arabia of the multinational defensive maritime coalition to protect freedom of navigation.

In a statement conveyed by the Palestinian News Agency (Wafa), the Presidency described the agreement as a strategic step that would enhance security, stability, and cooperation among Islamic countries, and consolidate the principles of solidarity, shared security, and common destiny in the face of common challenges and threats.

The statement expressed the Presidency’s appreciation for the leadership of the three countries for this important step, emphasizing that strengthening the capabilities, integration, and cooperation of the nations of the Ummah in protecting their security, sovereignty, and legitimate interests constitutes a fundamental pillar for regional stability and safeguarding the resources of their peoples.

It reaffirmed Palestine’s aspiration that the Mecca Agreement serve as a starting point for enhancing the system of Arab and Islamic collective security, thereby contributing to the protection of the region’s countries, peoples, and holy sites, and supporting the Palestinian people’s rights and their legitimate struggle to end the Israeli occupation and establish their independent state with full sovereignty and its eastern capital, Jerusalem.

On another note, the Presidency stressed in a separate statement that the initiative for the defensive maritime coalition reflects a firm commitment to enhancing international cooperation to protect international security and stability and safeguard the common interests of states.

The statement commended the role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in launching initiatives aimed at strengthening international security and building effective international partnerships to address common security challenges, thereby contributing to protecting global trade flows and ensuring the safety of maritime navigation in accordance with international law.

It affirmed that safeguarding the security of sea lanes and freedom of navigation is a fundamental element in supporting global economic stability and enhancing international peace and security, noting that international cooperation represents the optimal means to confront security challenges and consolidate a safer and more stable environment.

It renewed its support for all initiatives aimed at enhancing regional and international security and stability, expressing hope that this coalition would contribute to broadening the horizons of international cooperation in a manner that serves the security of the region and the world, and strengthens efforts to establish just and comprehensive peace, leading to the Palestinian people’s attainment of their legitimate national rights.
