Yemen: Houthi shelling on civilians in Marib kills two and injures 14 others

Aden, Aug 7 (KUNA) -- The Yemeni Ministry of Health announced on Friday that two civilians were killed and 14 others were injured in an initial tally of a missile strike launched by the Houthi militia over the past hours on several residential neighborhoods and displacement camps in the city of Marib.

In a statement, the ministry said it had directed all hospitals and health facilities to raise their readiness and alert levels, deploy available medical and ambulance resources, and make every effort to save the injured and provide them with necessary care. It added that medical and ambulance teams continued to treat the victims amid continuous monitoring of developments on the ground.

The statement noted that the casualty figures are preliminary and subject to revision based on data from health facilities and relevant authorities. It emphasized that targeting residential neighborhoods and displacement camps, which resulted in civilian casualties, constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and international conventions, calling for a serious and immediate stance to protect civilians and put an end to their continued targeting by the Houthi militia.

Local media had previously confirmed that the Houthi militia targeted military positions belonging to government forces in Marib Governorate over the past hours with more than 20 missiles and drones. Government forces intercepted most of them, while some fell in displacement camps in the governorate, which hosts the largest concentration of displaced persons in Yemen. (End) S.N.S./F.A.S.
