Yemen condemns Houthi militia attacks on civilian targets in Najran, Saudi Arabia
Aden, Aug 7 (KUNA) -- The Yemeni government strongly condemned and denounced on Friday the terrorist attacks launched by the Houthi militia on civilian targets in the Najran region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which resulted in injuries to civilians of various nationalities.
In a statement, the Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that attacks targeting Saudi Arabia do not affect a sister state alone, but also harm Yemeni interests and regional and international efforts aimed at restoring security and stability in Yemen and the region. These efforts are led primarily by the Kingdom’s initiatives to end the suffering of the Yemeni people and establish just and lasting peace.
The statement noted that these attacks are a continuation of the systematic “terrorist” approach practiced by the Houthi militia against the Yemeni people and neighboring countries. It pointed out that over the past hours, the militia continued its assaults on state institutions and forces while they were carrying out their duties in combating terrorism, organized crime, and arms smuggling networks. It also targeted displacement camps and civilian sites in Ma’rib Governorate, resulting in civilian casualties.
The statement clarified that the militia’s continued possession of a stockpile of missiles and drones, along with the ongoing flow of weapons and military expertise to it, reflects the extent of the support it receives from the Iranian regime and underscores Tehran’s aim to transform parts of Yemeni territory into a platform for threatening the security of neighboring countries and international sea lanes, and to use them as leverage to advance its regional agenda.
It stressed that containing this threat without addressing its root causes will only lead to its expansion. Ending these attacks requires supporting the Yemeni state and its legitimate institutions to complete the consolidation of its authority over the entire national territory, end the coup, and cut off sources of threat and terrorism. This would ensure security for Yemen, protect neighboring countries, and safeguard freedom of navigation and international trade in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
The statement expressed Yemen’s pride in its firm strategic partnership with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, praising its leadership role in the coalition supporting legitimacy and the political, economic, humanitarian, and developmental support it has provided. This support has contributed to protecting the Yemeni state, alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people, and enhancing their resilience in the face of the humanitarian crisis caused by the Iran-backed Houthi militia.
Earlier on Thursday evening, Brigadier General Turki Al-Maliki, spokesperson for the coalition forces supporting legitimacy in Yemen, stated that 11 civilians, including Saudis and foreigners, were injured in the Najran region as a result of terrorist attacks by the Houthi militia. He affirmed that the coalition’s joint command would continue to take deterrent measures against these terrorist attacks to ensure the protection of citizens. (End) S.N.S./F.A.S.
