Speaker of the Arab Parliament Condemns Houthi Attacks on Saudi Arabia and Yemen

Cairo, Aug 7 (KUNA) -- Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al-Yamahi on Friday condemned Houthi militia attacks targeting the Najran region in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and positions of the Yemeni government forces in the Marib and Hadhramaut governorates, which resulted in casualties among civilians and military personnel.

In a statement, Al-Yamahi said the attacks represent a dangerous escalation that undermines regional and international efforts to de-escalate tensions and achieve security and stability in the region, exacerbates humanitarian suffering, and threatens prospects for a comprehensive political settlement of the Yemeni crisis. He described them as a blatant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.

He stressed that targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure constitutes a violation of the principles of international humanitarian law and necessitates action by the international community to ensure the protection of civilians, respect for the rules of international law, and an end to such attacks and their recurrence.

He warned against undermining efforts to restore peace in the region, emphasizing the need to support regional and international initiatives aimed at ending the Yemeni crisis through a comprehensive political solution that safeguards Yemen’s security, stability, and territorial integrity.

He reaffirmed the Arab Parliament’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and Yemen in the face of any aggression targeting their security, the safety of their territories, or the security of their citizens, and reiterated the Parliament’s support for efforts to preserve Yemen’s security, stability, and territorial integrity.
