Washington Welcomes Caracas Talks to Advance Political Transition in Venezuela

Washington, Aug 6 (KUNA) -- The United States welcomed on Thursday the arrival of a delegation from the Venezuelan National Assembly, led by Dinora Figuera, in Caracas to begin direct talks with the interim Venezuelan government. This was stated in a statement by the U.S. Department of State, which described the direct talks as a “unique opportunity” and reiterated Washington’s commitment to “support this Venezuela-led process, which plays a pivotal role in the President’s three-phase plan to achieve stability, economic recovery, political reconciliation, and a peaceful transition.” The United States urged all concerned parties to “support this effort aimed at achieving tangible results for the Venezuelan people.” It also praised efforts “to meet the urgent needs of those affected by the June earthquakes and to expand political freedoms and work toward a more stable and prosperous future for the Venezuelan people.” (End) R.S.R.
