(UNIFIL) records highest rate of projectiles fired by Israeli occupation forces since June 21
Beirut, Aug 6 (KUNA) -- The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) announced on Thursday that it recorded the firing of 113 projectiles by Israeli occupation forces yesterday, marking the highest number recorded since June 21.
In a statement, UNIFIL noted that it observed 113 projectiles fired by Israeli occupation forces yesterday targeting southern Lebanon, adding that although the intensity of violence remains lower than in previous months, the situation remains fragile.
It added that the commitment of the parties to International Resolution 1701, along with dialogue and coordination with the international sponsoring bodies, constitutes the basis for de-escalation and the restoration of full stability in southern Lebanon.
UNIFIL reaffirmed its continued monitoring of daily violations of Lebanese airspace and military activities on the ground.
In a related development, the Lebanese National News Agency reported that Israeli occupation forces conducted armored patrols in the areas of Wadi Salouqi and Wadi al-Hajar, coinciding with bursts of machine-gun fire directed toward both sides of the road and low-flying drone flights over the skies of the city of Sidon and its surroundings in southern Lebanon.
The agency stated that the town of Mansouriya witnessed an air strike that coincided with an explosion carried out by Israeli occupation forces in the Mushayaa neighborhood, located between the towns of Mansouriya and Majdal Zoun, with no injuries reported.
These developments come as the seventh round of talks on the Framework Agreement takes place in the Italian capital, Rome, under US sponsorship, aimed at ending military confrontations. The Special Coordination Group for Lebanon is directly coordinating between the parties to ensure the gradual withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces and the extension of Lebanese state sovereignty through the deployment of the Lebanese army in the southern areas.
