Beirut, Aug 6 (KUNA) -- Lebanon announced on Thursday that eight people were injured in airstrikes carried out by the Israeli occupation forces on the town of Burj al-Shamali in southern Lebanon. The Emergency Operations Center of the Lebanese Ministry of Health stated in a press release that “Israeli enemy airstrikes on Burj al-Shamali resulted in the injury of eight citizens,” adding that the wounded were immediately transported to hospitals to receive necessary medical treatment.

In a related development, the Lebanese National News Agency reported that the skies over the city of Sidon and the surrounding districts of the Sidon District witnessed heavy flights by Israeli occupation drones, coinciding with similar aerial activity observed over Beirut’s southern suburbs. The agency had earlier stated that the occupation forces had intensified their attacks on the Sidon District through a series of airstrikes and intense artillery shelling, which caused casualties and displaced residents in southern Lebanon.

These field developments coincide with the launch of the seventh round of talks on the Framework Agreement in the Italian capital, Rome, under U.S. sponsorship, aimed at ending military confrontations. The Special Coordination Group for Lebanon is tasked with direct coordination between the parties to ensure the gradual withdrawal of occupation forces and the extension of Lebanese state sovereignty through the deployment of the Lebanese army in the southern areas.
