UN Mission in Libya announces agreement on mechanism for appointing head of the Electoral Commission

Tunis, Aug 5 (KUNA) -- The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) announced on Wednesday that participants in the mini-meeting on drawing up the international roadmap to resolve the Libyan crisis had reached an agreement on the mechanism for appointing the head of the National High Authority for Elections. UNSMIL said in a statement that the agreement was reached during the seventh meeting of Libyan parties, held in Tunisia as part of a series of meetings facilitated by the mission to address the first two steps of the international roadmap. It added that the meeting, chaired by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Hanna Tetteh, saw participants agree on the mechanism for appointing the head of the National High Authority for Elections. The mission clarified that participants continued consultations on the remaining items of the draft final agreement and agreed to complete these consultations in the Tunisian capital next week.
