US Embassy in Yemen: Confronting the Houthi militia is a priority to protect navigation and regional security

Aden, Aug 5 (KUNA) -- The new U.S. Chargé d’Affaires to Yemen, Neil Hob, affirmed on Wednesday that confronting the Iran-backed Houthi militia and other terrorist groups in Yemen is “a necessity to safeguard freedom of navigation and global trade, as well as regional security.” The U.S. Embassy in Yemen said in a statement that Hob, in a press remark marking his assumption of duties, expressed his anticipation of working in close partnership with the internationally recognized Yemeni government. According to the statement, Hob clarified that he and the diplomatic team at the embassy would continue their diligent efforts to implement the core priorities of U.S. President Donald Trump and to support the diplomatic initiatives of Secretary of State Marco Rubio. He affirmed the United States’ steadfast support for Saudi Arabia and its partners in confronting “Houthi terrorism and extortion.” He noted that the U.S. Embassy would continue to strengthen its ties with the Yemeni people and work in partnership with the Yemeni government to preserve Yemen’s cultural heritage and collaborate with various parties to advance a future of peace and prosperity in Yemen.
