Ministry of Health Launches Platform for Training Health Personnel in Collaboration with the US Mayo Clinic
Kuwait City, Aug 5 (KUNA) -- The Ministry of Health launched today, Wednesday, a training platform for health professionals in collaboration with the US Mayo Clinic, featuring a series of lectures delivered by experts and specialists from the hospital. The initiative will present the latest developments shaping the future of medicine, with sessions scheduled to begin on August 18.
In a statement to KUNA, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health Sheikh Dr. Salman Khalifa Al-Sabah said that the cooperation between the ministry and Mayo Clinic represents an important opportunity for collaboration in various fields, enabling the acquisition and utilization of medical expertise. He added that what distinguishes Mayo Clinic is not only its clinical aspects but also its management and policy-making dimensions, making it one of the most prominent hospitals worldwide.
Sheikh Dr. Salman Al-Sabah emphasized that Kuwait possesses the necessary infrastructure to achieve future goals for sustainable healthcare, which will reflect on the scope of opportunities available. He expressed anticipation for Mayo Clinic’s contribution in this regard.
For his part, Assistant Undersecretary for External Health Services at the ministry, Dr. Hisham Kalander, told KUNA that the platform aims to transfer expertise between the ministry and the hospital, and to share the latest health practices that will positively impact service levels and the quality of care provided to both citizens and residents.
Dr. Kalander noted that the launch of the platform marks the beginning of a series of other projects, consisting of a set of lectures continuing for more than a year on a monthly basis, covering various topics aimed at developing the healthcare system. He affirmed that the Ministry of Health attaches great importance to supporting and developing health professionals in Kuwait by providing the necessary healthcare services to enhance the quality of care offered.
For his part, Dr. Omar Ghanem, Medical Director of Mayo Clinic in the Middle East, told KUNA that they have launched, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health in Kuwait, a series of lectures enabling doctors in Kuwait to benefit from the medical expertise and information provided by a select group of specialists at Mayo Clinic.
Dr. Ghanem added that Mayo Clinic’s scope extends beyond clinical practice to include research, as it houses 22 major research laboratories and invests approximately $1.3 billion annually in research, reflecting the significant attention given to this field.
He clarified that Mayo Clinic operates five colleges: the College of Medicine, the Graduate Medical Sciences College, the College of Continuing Professional Development, as well as the Colleges of Health Sciences and Biomedical Sciences, along with 450 educational programs. (End) M.N.M./K.D.A.
