China adds 7 US companies to sanctions list in response to "restrictive" measures against its firms and products
Beijing, Aug 5 (KUNA) -- China announced on Wednesday a series of countermeasures, including placing seven U.S. companies on its sanctions list, in response to “restrictive” measures recently imposed by Washington against Chinese companies and products. Xinhua News Agency quoted China’s Ministry of Commerce in a statement saying that the new measures prohibit Chinese organizations and individuals from engaging in any dealings or cooperation with six U.S. entities, including Applied DNA Sciences and Human Rights in China. It explained that “these entities assisted and supported the United States in imposing sanctions that were unlawfully levied against Chinese companies under the pretext of forced labor, which severely violated China’s sovereignty, security, and developmental interests.”
The ministry also announced a ban on dealings and cooperation by Chinese organizations and individuals with the U.S. company Compliance Testing LLC, citing its support for efforts by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission to ban the import of humanoid robots and Chinese power converters on national security grounds.
In a parallel move, the ministry imposed export controls on dual-use materials related to drones, their spare parts, and their core technologies destined for the United States, a step aimed at “safeguarding national security and interests and fulfilling China’s international obligations in preventing nuclear proliferation.”
Concurrently, the ministry launched a one-year investigation into imported imaging and printing equipment equipped with foreign systems and software to assess their potential impact on national security interests.
In a separate statement, the ministry affirmed that Washington “has continued to expand the concept of national security and has repeatedly taken restrictive measures against China, covering areas such as communications, laboratories, drones, consumer guidance devices, submarine fiber-optic cables, as well as humanoid robots and power converters, since the summit between the leaders of the two countries in Busan, South Korea, last October.”
The ministry pledged to take further countermeasures if the U.S. side insists on announcing new restrictive measures against China. (End) S.L.Q./T.M.A.
