India condemns attack on cargo ship flying its flag in the Red Sea, calls for halt to attacks

New Delhi, Aug 5 (KUNA) -- India condemned the attack on the cargo ship "Faiys Nour Aliya 1451," which was flying its flag in the Red Sea off the Yemeni coast, resulting in its sinking. India called for an end to attacks on commercial vessels and for the guarantee of freedom of navigation in accordance with international law.

In a statement issued Tuesday evening, India’s Ministry of External Affairs expressed deep concern over the continued attacks on commercial ships in the region, emphasizing the need to halt these assaults and restore freedom of navigation and trade through international waterways without impediments, in line with international law provisions.

India expressed its gratitude to the Yemeni authorities for their support in the rescue operations of the 14 crew members, noting that the Indian Embassy in Riyadh is closely monitoring the situation and proactively coordinating with Yemeni authorities to ensure the safety and security of the crew.

Earlier, India’s Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, announced that an Indian vessel had been hit by a projectile while near Yemeni waters, leading to its sinking.
