Ministry of Health launches awareness campaign under the slogan "Together to Support Breastfeeding"

Kuwait City, 4 August (KUNA) -- The Ministry of Health launched today, Tuesday, an awareness campaign under the slogan “Together to Support Breastfeeding,” coinciding with the observance of World Breastfeeding Week, which runs from 1 to 7 August each year, in line with national strategies and global efforts to provide the best possible healthy start for children.

In a press release, the ministry said the campaign aims to raise awareness of the importance of breastfeeding, support mothers, families, and healthcare providers. It noted that the campaign includes awareness activities at five hospitals and health centers, alongside workshops, educational booths, and direct consultations for mothers.

It added that the campaign contributes to disseminating accurate information about breastfeeding, answering families’ inquiries, and promoting sound health practices.

According to the statement, Dr. Husna Ayad, Director of the Nutrition and Feeding Administration at the ministry, said this year’s slogan embodies the idea that supporting breastfeeding is a shared responsibility that requires the coordinated efforts of health institutions, society, and the family, given its direct impact on improving the health of mothers and children.

Dr. Ayad explained that breastfeeding is one of the most effective and scientifically proven health interventions for improving maternal and child health. It provides infants with all their nutritional needs during the first six months of life, boosts their immunity, and reduces the risk of infectious and chronic diseases. It also contributes to their healthy growth and development.

She added that breastfeeding helps mothers recover more quickly after childbirth, reduces the risk of breast and ovarian cancer and type 2 diabetes, and plays a role in enhancing mental well-being and strengthening the bond between mother and child. (End) M.N.M./K.H.H.
