The Kuwaiti Cabinet holds its meeting chaired by HH Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah
Kuwait City, Aug 4 (KUNA) -- The Cabinet held its meeting today, Tuesday, August 4, 2026, presided over by His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Prime Minister. Following the meeting, His Excellency Sheikh Sharida Abdullah Al-Muwasharji, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, issued the following statement:
On the occasion of the 36th anniversary of the brutal Iraqi aggression against the State of Kuwait, which coincided with last Sunday, Kuwait recalls with pain and bitterness the treacherous crime committed by the Iraqi regime on the dawn of August 2, 1990. This event remains a testament to national unity and a solid milestone that evokes the great sacrifices made by Kuwaitis in defense of their country and its sovereignty. This anniversary embodies the spirit of cohesion and loyalty, highlighting the values of belonging to Kuwait and the people’s unity around their legitimate leadership.
The Cabinet highly appreciates and honors the prominent role played by the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the late Father Amir Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah, the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and the late Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, may God have mercy on them, in working to liberate Kuwait from the clutches of occupation.
The Cabinet proudly recalls the steadfastness and heroic sacrifices of the Kuwaiti people in the face of the treacherous Iraqi aggression, which stands as a model of national unity and a pivotal moment where the cohesion of Kuwaitis, both domestically and internationally, was evident. Standing as one solid block behind their legitimate leadership, they painted an eternal national and human portrait characterized by bravery, patience, and faith.
The Cabinet deeply appreciates and honors the sacrifices of the righteous martyrs and loyal resistance heroes who defended the homeland with their pure blood, writing in the pages of history an epic of a people who know no defeat in their defense of Kuwait during the brutal Iraqi occupation. Kuwaitis proved during this crucial phase of their nation’s history that unity of ranks and deep faith in the justice of their cause were Kuwait’s impregnable shield and the secret to its rise from adversity to glory. He prayed to Almighty God to envelop the righteous martyrs in His vast mercy and grant them Paradise.
Reaffirming its profound gratitude and appreciation to all friendly and sister countries that contributed to the liberation of Kuwait and the restoration of rights to their rightful owners, the Cabinet prayed to Almighty God to perpetuate the blessings of security and stability upon their beloved homeland under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, may God protect and guard him, and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, may God protect him.
On another note, the Cabinet expressed its strongest condemnation and rejection of the ongoing ungodly Iranian aggression against the country, which targeted several vital facilities, including a government facility in the north of the country, and civilian vehicles belonging to a civilian company on Bubiyan Island, on the past Friday and Saturday. This was carried out using hostile drones, in a blatant violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty, a direct threat to its security and stability, and a serious breach of international law, the UN Charter, principles of good neighborliness, and Security Council Resolution (2817). The Cabinet emphasized that the continuation of these blatant attacks constitutes a dangerous escalation and reflects an aggressive stance that cannot be justified or accepted, as it undermines regional security and stability and exacerbates tensions. It reiterated Kuwait’s inherent and legitimate right to take all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty, protect its security, interests, assets, and the safety of its citizens and residents.
On a separate note, the Cabinet expressed its strong condemnation and rejection of the attacks by Iran-backed militias in Iraq against the sister Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, reflecting those militias’ determination to continue escalating tensions and destabilizing the region. The latest such incident was the blatant aggression involving the launch of drones in a futile attempt to target petroleum facilities in the Eastern Province last week. This constitutes a blatant violation of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and a threat to its security and territorial integrity, at a time when the Kingdom is making sincere efforts to contribute to ending regional escalation. The Cabinet reaffirmed Kuwait’s absolute solidarity with the sister Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its support for all measures taken to protect its security, sovereignty, interests, and assets, including its inherent right to self-defense guaranteed by international law under Article 51 of the UN Charter. It emphasized that the security of the Kingdom is an integral part of the security of Kuwait and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
The Cabinet also reiterated its strong condemnation and rejection of the renewed Iranian aggression targeting the sister Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, which involved a number of missiles last week. It considered this aggression a blatant violation of Jordan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and a threat to regional security and stability. Kuwait reaffirmed its full solidarity with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, its support for all measures taken to safeguard its security and sovereignty, and stressed the necessity of putting an end to these attacks and respecting international law and principles of good neighborliness.
Furthermore, the Cabinet expressed its strong condemnation and rejection of the drone attack on the sister Arab Republic of Egypt, which caused fires on two ships at the Port of Damietta last week. It reaffirmed Kuwait’s full solidarity with the Arab Republic of Egypt, its support for all measures taken to safeguard its sovereignty and protect its security and interests.
On another note, the Cabinet heard a briefing from His Excellency the Minister of Defense, Sheikh Abdullah Ali Al-Salim Al-Sabah, on the latest developments in the region and current military situations in light of the ungodly Iranian aggression against Kuwait in recent days. He emphasized the readiness of the Armed Forces and their continued performance of duties with efficiency and competence, taking all necessary measures to safeguard Kuwait’s sovereignty and territory, maintain its security and stability, and protect citizens and residents.
Separately, the Cabinet heard a briefing from His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Jaraah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, on the political and diplomatic efforts undertaken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its diplomatic missions abroad to keep pace with the latest developments in regional and international arenas.
In this context, His Excellency informed the Cabinet of the results of his official visit to the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, last Wednesday, and the substance of his meetings with the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, attended by the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar, and the Pakistani ministers of defense, commerce, national food security, research, communications, maritime affairs, and petroleum, along with several senior Pakistani officials. During the meetings, His Excellency conveyed greetings from His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, may God protect and guard him, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, may God protect him, and His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Prime Minister, to the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, and to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, along with their best wishes for the continued progress and prosperity of the friendly Pakistani government and people.
The meetings reviewed the solid historical relations between the two countries and their peoples and discussed ways to enhance and strengthen cooperation in various fields to serve the common interests of both nations. The latest regional developments and efforts aimed at enhancing security and stability in the region were also discussed. His Excellency expressed Kuwait’s appreciation for the active diplomatic role played by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in supporting regional security and stability.
His Excellency also informed the Cabinet of the substance of two meetings he held with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan Ishaq Dar, and with the Chief of Army Staff and Commander of the Pakistan Armed Forces, General Asim Munir. These meetings reviewed the solid historical relations between the two countries and their peoples, emphasizing the importance of continuing to strengthen cooperation frameworks and intensify coordination and consultation in various fields. The latest regional developments and efforts aimed at de-escalation and enhancing security and stability in the region were also discussed.
On another note, the Cabinet reviewed a visual presentation by His Excellency the Minister of Education, Sayed Jalal Sayed Abdulmuhsin Al-Tabtabaee, attended by senior officials and administrators of the Ministry of Education, regarding the Ministry’s preparations for the start of the new academic year 2026/2027. The presentation outlined the measures taken to ensure the readiness of the educational system and the preparation of schools to receive students. It covered the main pillars of preparation at educational, administrative, technical, engineering, and technological levels, as well as updates on curriculum and educational regulation development, school equipment completion, and meeting various needs. Additionally, it highlighted the use of technology to manage and monitor the preparation plan via a dedicated electronic platform for monitoring operational plans for the new academic year. This platform facilitates tracking progress and completion rates, enhances implementation oversight, and identifies and addresses challenges promptly, thereby supporting swift decision-making and completing tasks according to specified timelines.
