China objects to "Japanese white paper" for its interference in its internal affairs regarding Taiwan

Beijing, Aug 4 (KUNA) -- China expressed its deep displeasure and firm rejection on Tuesday of a Japanese “white paper” that described it as “Japan’s greatest strategic threat,” urging Tokyo to stop interfering in its internal affairs. This came in a statement by the Chinese Ministry of Defense, as reported by the Xinhua News Agency, in response to Japan’s 2026 Defense White Paper, which China said falsely claimed that China’s military movements constitute “an unprecedented greatest strategic threat” and that the security environment surrounding Japan is undergoing its most complex and difficult period due to repeated Chinese military activities around Taiwan.

The statement clarified that “the Japanese white paper is riddled with false narratives that grossly exaggerate the regional security crisis” and falsely promote the so-called “Chinese threat,” noting that it aims to justify easing restrictions on Japan’s military expansion. It pointed out that the current Japanese government is accelerating the implementation of its “three basic security documents” and continuing to increase defense budgets, develop long-range strike capabilities, militarize outer space, and turn it into a battlefield.

It added that Tokyo is using the expansion of its defense industry as a new area for economic growth, seeking to integrate enhanced military capability and combat readiness into the core of state institutions, economic sectors, and public opinion. In this context, it warned of the dangers of “Japan’s new militarism,” describing it as “a real threat that challenges the international order established after World War II and undermines regional peace and stability.”

It stressed that the Taiwan issue concerns China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the political foundations of China-Japan relations, and regarded it as “a red line that cannot be crossed.” (End) S.L.Q./S.M.W.
