Cairo, Aug 4 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty emphasized the importance of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, consolidating the principles of dialogue among civilizations, and promoting the values of peace and understanding at both regional and international levels.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release on Tuesday that this came during a meeting between Abdelatty and the Organization’s Director-General, Khaled El-Anany, to discuss ways to enhance existing cooperation between the two sides, contributing to Egypt’s efforts to achieve sustainable development and improve its educational, scientific, and cultural systems.
The meeting also addressed ways to support joint projects in the fields of cultural heritage protection, enhancing the use of technology, developing educational systems, and supporting youth empowerment and capacity-building programs. Additionally, the national efforts undertaken to preserve Egypt’s archaeological and heritage sites were reviewed, alongside the development of cultural infrastructure, reflecting the depth of Egyptian civilization and its contribution to human heritage.
The Ministry noted that Abdelatty expressed appreciation for the pivotal role played by UNESCO in supporting cultural and human heritage and enhancing the quality of education, particularly in light of the growing challenges facing the region and the world.
Abdelatty stressed Egypt’s commitment to continuing close cooperation with the Organization, based on its belief in the importance of investing in education and culture as two fundamental pillars for achieving sustainable development. He reaffirmed the importance of supporting UNESCO’s efforts to strengthen multilateralism and consolidate dialogue among civilizations and cultures.
Abdelatty also highlighted the importance of continuing coordination between Egypt and UNESCO to support the priorities of the African continent in the fields of education, culture, and science, thereby contributing to building African national capacities, enhancing the protection and preservation of African cultural heritage, and leveraging technology and innovation to develop educational systems, promote regional integration, and achieve the continent’s sustainable development priorities.
For his part, El-Anany expressed his appreciation for the role Egypt plays as an active partner in supporting the Organization’s agenda, commending its efforts in the fields of education, culture, and science. He affirmed UNESCO’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Egypt across various areas of mutual interest, contributing to the achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
