Al-Tamuh Club Organizes Awareness Forum on Down Syndrome and Heart Problems
Kuwait City, 3 Aug (KUNA) -- The Kuwaiti Ambitious Sports Club for People with Intellectual Disabilities, the official representative of Special Olympics Kuwait, today, Monday, in collaboration with the Kuwait Down Syndrome Association, the Kuwait Association for Families of Persons with Disabilities, and Al-Hadi Hospital, organized the Fourth Family Health Forum. The forum’s seminar focused on “Down Syndrome and Heart Problems,” presented by Dr. Sandus Al-Hudhud, a pediatric and fetal cardiology consultant and head of the Pediatric Cardiac Ultrasound Unit at the Chest Hospital, with the aim of raising health awareness among families and promoting early care and intervention for persons with intellectual disabilities.
Rehab Bursali, National Director of Special Olympics Kuwait and member of the Committee for the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, told KUNA that the awareness forums organized by Special Olympics aim to raise families’ awareness of the major health challenges their children may face and to emphasize the importance of early intervention, which helps reduce disability complications and improve quality of life.
She said that Dr. Al-Hudhud was chosen to deliver the seminar due to her extensive expertise in pediatrics, pediatric cardiology, and fetal cardiology, as well as her distinguished professional record in diagnosing and treating heart diseases in children, particularly those with Down syndrome.
Bursali added that these forums contribute to empowering families by providing them with reliable health information, thereby enhancing their confidence in managing their children’s health conditions and enabling them to make appropriate decisions at the right time, while also supporting caregivers, especially parents.
She explained that Special Olympics continues to implement its health programs by organizing seminars and forums, conducting health screenings for athletes and young athletes, and relying on specialized doctors to participate in the health program in accordance with established standards, ensuring the provision of comprehensive health services to persons with disabilities.
She expressed her gratitude to all participating doctors, specialists, parents, and children, and commended the patronage of Sheikhah Sheikha Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah for the event and her ongoing support for initiatives aimed at enhancing the health of persons with disabilities, empowering them, and improving their quality of life.
