15 Dead and 7 Missing in Floods and Landslides in Southern India

New Delhi, Aug 3 (KUNA) -- Indian authorities announced on Monday that 15 people were killed and seven others were missing due to floods and landslides triggered by heavy monsoon rains in the southern state of Kerala. Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan said in a statement that the floods and landslides caused by the intense monsoon rains resulted in 15 deaths, with seven others remaining unaccounted for. Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Kannur, Malappuram, and Wayanad were among the hardest-hit areas, as authorities intensified relief and evacuation efforts and established shelters to accommodate affected residents. The central government dispatched teams from the National Disaster Response Force to assist local police and security forces in search and rescue operations.
