Egyptian Foreign Minister and Gaza Strip High Representative Discuss Arrangements for the Next Phase

Cairo, Aug 2 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nikolai Mladenov discussed on Sunday the arrangements for the next phase in the Gaza Strip. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a press statement that the discussion took place during a phone call between the two sides, as part of consultations and coordination on recent developments in Gaza. The statement said the call addressed developments in negotiations to complete the implementation of the obligations under the US President’s peace plan for Gaza. It added that the Egyptian foreign minister stressed the importance of implementing all first-phase obligations, including the full, safe, and sustainable access of humanitarian aid, the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from the Strip, and moving toward early recovery and reconstruction. He also emphasized the importance of the Gaza National Management Committee resuming its duties from within the Gaza Strip to efficiently manage the transitional phase and preserve the unity of Palestinian territories. Minister Abdelatty stressed in the statement the importance of all parties honoring their commitments as stipulated in the plan, and refraining from taking any measures that could undermine its implementation, thereby contributing to achieving security and stability and opening the way to restoring security and stability in the region.
