(Environmental Authority): The anniversary of the brutal Iraqi invasion is an eternal national milestone that embodies the unity and cohesion of Kuwaitis

Kuwait City, Feb 8 (KUNA) -- The Public Authority for Environment (PAE) affirmed today that the 36th anniversary of the brutal Iraqi aggression against the State of Kuwait will remain an eternal national milestone, during which Kuwait proudly recalls the steadfastness of its leadership, government, and people.

In a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on the occasion of the anniversary, Acting Director General of the PAE, Nouf Bahbahani, said that the nation’s sons and daughters wrote the finest examples of cohesion and sacrifice in defense of its sovereignty and independence.

She added that this anniversary embodies the values of unity, loyalty, and belonging, and reflects the resolve and willpower that enabled Kuwait to overcome that ordeal and preserve its security and stability.

Bahbahani noted that the Authority recalls the unprecedented damage inflicted on Kuwait’s environment—land, sea, and air—and pointed out that the State of Kuwait has made significant and continuous efforts to rehabilitate the affected ecosystems.

She stated that the Kuwaiti environment was among the most severely impacted sectors as a result of the brutal Iraqi aggression, as military operations and oil well fires left profound environmental impacts on all components of the terrestrial and marine environments.

She emphasized that Kuwait’s environmental components, including the marine environment, desert ecosystems, and their soil, wildlife, landforms, and groundwater, constitute a national wealth and natural reserve that “must be protected and developed through continued efforts based on an environmental sustainability approach, ensuring their preservation for future generations.”

Bahbahani said the Authority also commemorates with reverence the martyrs of Kuwait and their heroic deeds, praying to Almighty God to envelop them in His boundless mercy, and calling upon God to protect the State of Kuwait and perpetuate the blessings of security, safety, and stability under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait and His Highness the Crown Prince, may God protect and guard them, so that Kuwait remains proud, secure, and steadfast.
