Iraqi Prime Minister Orders Prevention of Any Threat to Neighboring Countries

Baghdad, August 1 (KUNA) – Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, ordered the prevention of any transgression or threat emanating from Iraqi territory toward neighboring countries, and directed the formation of a joint security committee to confront challenges and establish deterrent mechanisms to prevent the recurrence of such incidents or any potential violations. The Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office announced in a statement on Saturday that al-Zaidi’s directives came during a meeting he chaired to discuss security developments in the region. The statement clarified that al-Zaidi also instructed Iraqi security agencies to enforce the law, enhance security and stability, and fulfill their responsibilities in safeguarding sovereignty and fostering good neighborly relations. The meeting affirmed the readiness of the Armed Forces to thwart any attempt targeting neighboring countries within the regional context, and to prevent the use of Iraqi territory as a launching point or transit route for attacks on fraternal and friendly states, in line with their duty to preserve national sovereignty and respect the principles of good neighborliness and international law.
