U.S. Embassy in Baghdad Warns Its Citizens and Urges Them to Consider Leaving Iraq
Baghdad, Jan 8 (KUNA) -- The U.S. Embassy in Iraq on Saturday urged its nationals in the country to exercise caution and consider leaving Iraq due to escalating tensions in the region. In a statement, the embassy said that U.S. citizens currently in the Middle East should exercise extreme caution, raise their level of vigilance, and prepare for the possibility of flight cancellations, temporary airspace closures, and travel disruptions. It noted that several airlines in the region have postponed resuming their previous flight schedules, while others have canceled a number of their routes. The embassy added, “U.S. citizens in the region should consider leaving or be prepared to do so in the event of any escalation.” This comes amid heightened security tensions in the region and growing prospects of a broad U.S. military strike on Iran in the coming days.
