Egypt and France call for political coordination to enhance peace in the Middle East

Cairo, Jan 1 (KUNA) -- Egypt and France called on Saturday for continued consultation and political coordination between the two countries to enhance peace in the Middle East region. The spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, stated in a press release that this came during a telephone conversation between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron.

The statement said the call addressed developments in the regional situation and ways to achieve de-escalation and reduce current tensions, particularly regarding the conflict with Iran, the situation in Lebanon, Libya, and the occupied Palestinian territories. It emphasized the necessity of resolving various disputes through peaceful means to preserve regional peace and stability.

The statement added that the Egyptian president expressed his country’s full solidarity with France following the wildfires that affected some French regions in recent days, conveying condolences to the French president on the victims of these incidents. He also expressed Egypt’s full confidence in France’s ability to overcome the fire crisis, reaffirming Egypt’s readiness to provide all possible support to the French side in dealing with it.

For his part, the French president appreciated Egypt’s support for France during the current situation, emphasizing that it reflects the depth of the distinguished bilateral relations between the two countries. He expressed his hope for continuing to strengthen the existing strategic partnership and the growing momentum characterizing relations between the two friendly countries.
