Death toll rises to five Palestinians, with others injured in Israeli strikes on Gaza
Gaza City, Jan 1, 8 (KUNA) -- The number of Palestinian martyrs rose to five early Saturday morning, following the martyrdom of three Palestinians and injuries to others in continuous Israeli occupation airstrikes on scattered areas of the Gaza Strip. Health authorities stated in press statements that two Palestinians were killed in a strike carried out by Israeli occupation drones on the Third Street in northwest Gaza City, while a third Palestinian was martyred after an airstrike targeted a home in the Al-Mahatta area in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza. The authorities added that several Palestinians were injured when Israeli occupation drones targeted a tent sheltering displaced persons in Mawasi al-Qarara, southern Gaza. In a related development, health authorities condemned in a press statement the occupation forces’ targeting of medicine warehouses early Saturday, confirming that the shelling destroyed two of four warehouses and caused severe damage to the other two, resulting in the loss and deterioration of quantities of medicines, consumables, and medical supplies. They further stated that targeting the remaining components of the health system comes amid the ongoing siege and the prohibition of importing medicines and medical supplies, depriving patients and the wounded of treatment outside the Strip. They called on the international community, as well as UN, human rights, and humanitarian institutions, to intervene immediately to halt these attacks and provide protection for medical institutions and personnel.
