Kuwait City, Aug 1 (KUNA) -- August 1:
1953: The opening of a post office in the Port of Ahmadi, managed by Kuwait Oil Company.
1960: Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah issues an emiri decree enacting the law on necessary health precautions to prevent anthrax.
1964: Kuwaiti Deputy Emir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issues a law concerning public tenders and its amendments, under which the Central Tenders Committee was formed and attached to the Council of Ministers.
1964: Kuwaiti Deputy Emir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issues a law concerning work in the private sector.
1977: The death of theatrical artist Abdulaziz Al-Mosawi at the age of 41, one of the pioneering Kuwaiti artists.
1982: The establishment of the Kuwait Heart Association with the aim of combating heart diseases and providing all preventive and therapeutic means to limit their spread.
1984: The Ministry of Interior issues a decision to abolish the General Administration of Nationality, Passports, and Residency and to establish two new administrations: the General Administration of Immigration Affairs and the General Administration of Nationality and Passports.
1990: A meeting in Jeddah between Crown Prince and Prime Minister Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah and the so-called "Iraqi Revolutionary Command Council" Vice President Azzah Ibrahim, which faced difficulties characterized by the rigidity of the Iraqi position and its refusal to discuss Kuwait's proposals regarding the border issue between the two countries.
1995: The National Assembly approves a bill allowing married, divorced, or widowed women to retire after 15 years of service instead of 20, regardless of their age.
1998: Fawzi Dahesh Al-Shammari achieves a global sporting milestone for Kuwait by winning the bronze medal in the 400-meter hurdles at the 7th World Youth Athletics Championships held in Nice, France, setting a Kuwaiti record of 45.89 seconds.
2006: Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issues a law redefining the electoral districts for the National Assembly, dividing the country into five districts, each electing ten members, with each voter entitled to cast votes for four candidates in their district.
2016: Kuwait Petrochemical Industries Corporation (KPI) receives the Gold Award for Health and Safety and the Silver Award for Fleet Safety from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) for 2016.
2020: Kuwait International Airport gradually resumes operations in a first phase lasting six months, with passenger capacity not exceeding 30 percent, following a suspension since March 13, 2020, due to coronavirus containment measures.
2022: An emiri decree is issued forming the 40th Kuwaiti government, led by Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, comprising 12 ministers.
2023: The National Assembly approves a bill concerning National Assembly elections (establishing a general electoral commission), aiming to achieve a more optimal democratic and legal system that ensures greater transparency and integrity in electoral procedures.
2024: Kuwait organizes an annual event to commemorate the Kuwaiti martyrs, highlighting their heroism and sacrifices during the brutal Iraqi invasion in 1990, using national messages directed at Kuwaiti society. (End)
