European Union: Disarmament agreement between Hamas and armed factions in Gaza is a constructive step toward peace

Brussels, July 31 (KUNA) -- The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, said on Friday that the full implementation of the announced agreement on the disarmament of Hamas and other armed factions in the Gaza Strip would be a constructive step toward peace. Kallas welcomed the agreement, reached with U.S. mediation and supported by Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and former UN envoy Nikolay Mladenov, in a post on her official X account, stating that its success depends on the full commitment of all parties. She affirmed the European Union’s readiness to support the next steps, including the entry of the National Committee and the International Stabilization Force into the Strip. Kallas noted that the EU’s two missions on the ground play an important role in supporting Palestinian state-building efforts. She explained that the European Union is the largest donor of humanitarian aid to Gaza, pointing out that it pledged in July last year to provide 900 million euros for projects aimed at helping the Strip recover from the effects of the war. U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that the Gaza Peace Council had reached what he described as a “historic agreement” for the disarmament of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza.
